How can I help my child live with reflux?
Sometimes babies don’t spit out what comes back up but swallow it instead. This is known as ‘silent reflux’.
He might also prescribe a medicine to help your child’s stomach make less acid. But researchers aren’t sure whether these drugs ease reflux in infants. Acid reflux happens when food and acid in the stomach move back up into the tube that goes to the mouth, called the esophagus.
It’s like, I can’t believe anyone would buy this drug after hearing this. PPIs have been shown to increase the risk of SIBO. So that’s pretty ironic, right? SIBO is one of the underlying causes of reflux in the first place, and PPIs have been shown to increase the risk of SIBO.
A dairy allergy is an intolerance to cows milk protein, not to lactose (this is why you can’t have lactose free products or yogurt). Hi my baby is just 3months and she is exhibiting almost all the symptoms of acid reflux and colic,am on gripe water but it doesn’t seem to help much and now she isn’t feeding well on both breast milk and formula making her lose weight. I would have love to try some of the probiotic drops but the problem is,is not easy to find here in Nigeria. Giving your baby a probiotic formulated for infants to help boost baby’s digestion can help alleviate many of the acid reflux symptoms naturally. You can just mix a little in breast milk or formula and spoon-feed or give with a syringe.
Reflux in babies
One of the ones that I’ve recommended before on the show is Ther-Biotic Infant, which is Bifidobacterium infantis. It’s a probiotic that’s appropriate for kids under two years of age.
Some studies have shown that babies benefit when mom restricts her intake of milk and eggs. Formula-fed infants may be helped by a change in formula. Gripe water can also be a great way to ease the symptoms of acid reflux in infants.
Because most of these tests are invasive or involve some negative side effects (ever tried to find a vein on a baby?!), it might be best, with your doctor’s approval, to start treating based on your baby’s acid reflux symptoms to see if he improves. If your little one is suffering from baby reflux, try out the first seven natural remedies. If that doesn’t relieve some of the symptoms of acid reflux, then talk to your pediatrician.
The more your baby is as upright as possible, the better. First and foremost you will need to speak to your doctor about treatments that are available to your baby, and you will need to decide whether or not you want to take them.
You feel helpless and powerless to make it better. Reflux puts your baby in a bad mood. They can’t easily soothe themselves or settle down. They don’t nap long. They wake up at night frequently.
Elevate. Keep everything that your baby lies on at an incline, so that the acid can travel back down to the tummy, thus preventing the burning to the oesophagus and reducing the amount of vomit. So pop a wedge or a pillow under the crib mattress, under the changing mat and under the play mat during the day.
We are currently waiting the 2 weeks for results but so far little relief – the spit up is just as frequent and her poor tummy churns constantly. The most heartbreaking though is when she tries clearing her throat over and over again. Thank you so much for this.
She was a completely different baby the next day. Once it started getting bad again then we would take her in again. We have only had to take her in twice in 4 months.
