The data search was performed by using free language terms related to BRJ and blood pressure. The search string for all databases was the following “beetroot juice” OR “red beet” OR “beta vulgaris” AND (blood pressure or hypertension). Another family of compounds present are the betaxanthins. These have a yellow colour independently, and are present in lower concentrations than the betacyanins. I appreciated the information about the beet juice testing. I am 87 and having a lot of gas regardless what I eat.
Well i took the teaspoon of lemon juice and everything was great. At the end of September i had a really bad case of Gastro and my eyes were yellow for a week. So i went to see the doctor and we did blood test and they came back negative. Then the burping and not being able to process proteins and dairy began and everytime i would eat either one of those i would burp.
Headache increased, so I took two ibuprofens, drank coffee (for its magnesium content, as I read online), fell immediately asleep for a short time. I had similar headaches, now I remember, when I tried taking L-glutamine months ago, so stopped using that after a week. Hi, I am a recent subscriber, thanks for a great article.
Inside Women’s Health:
The malfunction of the LES allows acid from the stomach to enter the esophagus, thus producing the symptoms of heartburn and GERD. So if you don’t have enough stomach acid, you won’t break down protein correctly, which can cause putrefaction, and lead to heartburn and gas. That’s a bold statement. But if there is one thing that is more misunderstood with digestion, it’s the role of stomach acid and how much you need or have. Heather, would you recommend a good probiotic.
It’s a shame low stomach acid isn’t talked about more with western medicine. Thanks so much for your response. I have spent one small fortune on my health in the last eleven years. Not once did anyone mention low stomach acid. I can distinctly remember the year I started living on acid reducers, 2001.
− ) on repetitive sets until exhaustion each consisting of 8 s of work followed by 30 s of rest on a cycle ergometer . No effects were detected on power output in the different sets. Moreover, a lower number of sets was accomplished in the session for the supplementation group versus placebo group.
How did the idea of potato juice first begin?
First of all, I bought my first 500 ml bottle of organic beetroot juice and downed it last night. This delicious juice is so potent that it may cause some dizziness during cleansing as toxins are being eliminated. This process may cause some discomfort but there is nothing to be alarmed about. During this time, drink plenty water also to flush out the toxic materials. Having water content removed or reduced to increase the proportion of a specific substance in a solution – our 70ml Beet It Sport shots are the concentrated equivalent to ~500ml of regular beetroot juice.
- I also use digestive enzymes and occasionally drink ACV prior to eating.
- If you get the warm, burning sensation, decrease by one pill at your next meal.
- These results indicate that there may be a ‘threshold’ amount of nitrate required to be ingested for exercise performance benefits to be obtained.
- When I eat something I can feel the taste of that food for hours after a meal.
- I love fresh boiled beets and every time I eat them, my urine is pink for a while until it clears out of my system.
- The stomach acid and the flora of the gut play an important role in breaking down the pigments in food, so if they are low or compromised you may experience beeturia.
Given the natural ingredients are simply concentrated beetroot juice (98%) and lemon juice (2%); made from concentrates, it is not surprising that we have seen no side effects from consuming our recommended dosing in the scientific research. Like with all nutritional supplements, it is important to trial them in training before competition, as people respond in different ways to different supplements. Most anti-cavity fluoride containing mouthrinses are OK, you should keep using them as recommended by your dentist. There is evidence to show that some antibacterial mouthrinses containing chlorhexidine might disrupt the conversion of nitrate to nitrite in the mouth.
The discoloration of urine to a reddish or pinkish color after consuming beets is called beeturia. The betalain pigments in the beets, which have been broken down and excreted, cause this. Our stomach acid and the flora of our gut play an important role in breaking down the pigment. If you have low stomach acid then your body is not able to metabolize and assimilate beetroot pigments properly, resulting in beeturia. This also means that you may not be metabolizing other foods efficiently either.

Hi Lori, I’ve now reached 8 HCL pills (with a high protein meal), but still had zero burning/warming sensation. I’m guessing this is indicative of low stomach acid?
My symptoms are every day. I tried lanzoprozol for excess acid but they did not help. The doctors don’t know what it is.
For a 650mg pill, that can mean taking anywhere from 6-7 pills. However, that’s an average, meaning many people take more and many people take less.
If so, how many pills can I safely go up to? Thanks, Rich. It can – but we’d suggest doing this test 2-3 times, to get a better measure of where your stomach acid levels are.
